WP3. Performance of constructed wetlands in field conditions

Basic information

Lead partner: ICRA/NTSU
Participation: UW, QIB

WP goals

WP3 is aimed to assess the overall capacity of two model, full-scale CWs operating in two geographically, climatically and economically contrasting regions (Spain and Moldova) on the removal of chemical (antibiotic residues) and biological (ARB and ARGs) emerging pollutants.

Specific tasks

3.1. Sampling of Empuriabrava CW (Spain).
3.2. Sampling of Orhei CW (Moldova).
3.3. Sample processing, analyses and sequencing.
3.4. Bioinformatic analysis of resistome, mobilome and bacterial/phage community structure.
3.5. Assessment of CW performance.

Milestones

M4. Development of a novel method of tracking horizontal transfer of ARGs in various environments by coupling microfluidics and high-throughput PCR amplicon sequencing (dmfPCR).

Deliverables

D7. Characterization of bacterial and viral communities, bacterial resistomes and mobilomes at each sampling site.
D8. Comparison of bacterial resistomes and mobilomes across compartments and stages of model CWs.
D9. Assessment of the capacity of model CW to remove antibiotic residues, wastewater-associated bacterial pathogens, ARBs and ARGs.
